day fifteen-grandparents

Fall was my grandmother Whitey's(Violet) favorite time of year. She passed away eleven years ago. I miss her. I was about seven when my grandpa Duke(Edward) died, and even though I didn't get the chance to know him as an adult, I have such fond memories of him.

2nd photo-my grandfather had contracted tuberculosis in the war. He doesn't look very well in this photo. My grandmother was a few months pregnant here with my dad
and was quarantined after she had him. She wasn't allowed to see him for something like ten days because of the health risks.

3rd photo-Grandpa Duke, he had the "bad boy" image down I think.

day eleven-crafting with kids

I love crafting with my children, though at times I find it difficult to not let my
type A personality take over. I've been working on being more mindful in my everyday life, especially when I'm engaged in activities with the kids-everyone has a lot more fun that way.

One of my favorite children's craft books is "Green crafts for children" by Emma Hardy. And one of the first projects we tried was The Simple Doll"s House. I think it turned out well(we have yet to make the furniture) Happy Crafting!

Feeling inspired by the beautiful Stephanie (NieNie), we decided to have our very own Back To School Feast. I made crowns, decided on a family theme and had a lovely family meal. I am so grateful for the opportunity to know stephanie through her blog. She has strengthend my testimony and made me want to be a better wife, mother and friend. Thank you Stephanie.

I love spending time with my husband. Sometimes I forget that I actually like him, if that makes any sense. I forget to see him as I did before we were a couple.
He's intelligent, has the patience of Job, is an Amazing father, makes me laugh,
and is sweet to me even when I'm being a brat. I love you Chris

We love the library! Especially Forest Grove City Library. Much of the library staff has remained the same since I was a child. It's a very comforting place to be. We visit at least twice a week.

Each of my children were so excited at the prospect of getting their VERY OWN library card. Emmy worked and worked at learning to write her name-she got her card when she was four! I am so thankful that my children love to read.

Being new at blogging I think I will get my feet wet by joining one of my favorite bloggers, Erin of Bluebirdbaby, in documenting "30 Days of Happiness"...

Day One-I loved "Julie and Julia" so much that my husband surprised me with this book. Maybe it will inspire me to do great things in the kitchen-lets hope anyway. Last night I was making a treat to share with a few families when I was reminded of Julia when she said to "never apologize" for your cooking. I'm determined to take that advice. Bon Appetit!
